Problem Solver Game is designed to promote thinking and communication. The game is based upon five (5) skill steps: - Identify the problem
- Assume responsibility for it
- Identify different solutions
- Try the best solution
- Try other solutions if the solution originally chosen does not work
Although the game can be played without a background in social problem solving skills, it is recommended that attention be directed towards problem solving strategies before playing the game. The instructions include suggestions for practicing problem solving skills prior to playing the gameThrough Problem Solver, young people are encouraged to examine problems they may have. The game prompts players to explore and to identify solutions for a problem. Most importantly, students are involved in talking about areas in their lives that are often difficult to approach through other group instructional techniques. The game is intended for young people between the ages of ten to sixteen. During the development of Problem Solver, upper elementary age students (grades 5 & 6) as well as special populations (e.g., those with learning disabilities, emotional impairments, speech-language disorders) successfully played the game.
