Scripting provides young people with opportunities to practice valuable social skills through a script approach. Students assume the characters in each script as they dramatize situations presented.

Two scripts, at least one to two pages in length, are provided for each of 53 social communication skills. The first script demonstrates the skill being used appropriately and students practice the verbal exchange. The second script for each skill presents an example of the skill used inappropriately. Students discuss the problem, correct the script, and practice the new version.

Scripts are written at approximately a 5.0 grade readability level, but even nonreaders can be involved by playing nonverbal roles or being prompted.
